GIAA frequently asked questions. Updated November 14, 2007 Q: If I join GIAA, can I do non-union work? A: Yes, GIAA does not conflict with the other acting unions’ rules. Q: How do I join Equity after joining GIAA? A: You must be a GIAA member in good standing for a year, then perform an italian language theater piece. Probably easier is to get two AFTRA roles past a month, then once you join AFTRA, you can join AEA. Q: How is GIAA related to the other acting unions? A: SAG, AEA and GIAA are members of the 4A’s ( Associate Actors and Artistes of America ) AFTRA is in the process of leaving the 4A’s. Currently, the 4A’s is the Actors’ representation direct with the AFL-CIO. Q: How often and how much are dues? A: After the initiation fee, dues are 60 per year, reduced to 40 if you are under 18 or over 65. If you do get billed for the full amount just send a copy of birth date to the office and we will correct. Q: How often are elections? A: Every 3 years.
